Wanna know how to start a yoga business that's profitable?
I’m guessing that if you're reading this you probably fall into one of two groups; either you’re a newly qualified teacher and you want a thriving yoga business but you’ve no idea how to do it, or you’re already teaching yoga but you aren’t making much money from it.
I’ve totally been where you are. When I got my certificate 5 years ago, I was so unbelievably scared about teaching and when I did manage to land teaching gigs, they were super sporadic and I was getting paid the equivalent of 30 dollars for a session. At the time I was ecstatic about that but being broke wore really thin and I just didn’t believe that I could make a profitable business from teaching yoga. Using these 4 tips I'm about to share with you, I:
- Built an incredibly profitable yoga business in the Philippines in just 3 months.
- Did exactly the same thing here in Portugal (we’ve now just finished building our new open air yoga deck – I’ll tell you more about that over the coming months).
- Created a profitable side hustle, Magic Malas, which allowed to me to connect with women all over the globe.
- Created a growing coaching business where I teach my clients spiritual principles and the latest business and marketing strategies to help them prime themselves for success and build their own meaningful and profitable businesses.
Here are my top 4 tips for how to start a yoga business that makes you money.
01 Weed your Garden
What I mean by this is using your yoga practice to dig deep when it comes to limiting beliefs that you have about money, your worth and self-esteem. As a qualified yoga teacher, you have a lot of tools under your belt already for releasing self-sabotaging beliefs. Make sure you use these practices to lay the foundation for your yoga business. Don’t neglect yourself to focus on your students. You can be a role model for them and lead by example.
02 Get Help
Most of us yoga teachers start out with zero business experience and somehow we’re expected to just magically know how to create a profitable business. For me it was only when I made the very scary decision to invest in business mentorship that I discovered a whole new way of serving my clients. And that’s when the money started flowing in. You get out what you put in. I have spent thousands on business development and it’s come back to me tenfold. So make sure that you get help and you’ll be amazed by what you can achieve.
03 Figure out your Niche
There are thousands of yoga teachers out there and the competition is pretty fierce. But, you are unique. You have unique experiences and a unique teaching style. So have a think about how you can brand yourself in terms of a niche. And when I say niche, I mean getting really specific about who you serve. So perhaps you’re a master at guided meditations and the people who always seem to get the most out of your classes are burnt out working women. Your niche therefore is yoga for driven business women. Because I live in Portugal and we get a lot of tourists coming through, my niche for my group classes is beginners. I make sure I tailor all of my marketing materials towards nervous beginners.
04 Figure out your Offerings and Your Business Model.
When most teachers start out, they figure if they can just get enough classes, they’ll make the money. But that’s exhausting. There are other ways that you can make money as a yoga teacher, through offering programs, coaching and retreats to name a few. Think outside the box. You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. Leverage your skills and passions to create new and exciting opportunities for your clients.
And there you have it - how to start a yoga business that makes you money.
